[Neither...? This is starting to get complicated. How is Lalli supposed to get a grasp on normal people things when they constantly changed like this for no apparent reason? He huffs a little, but he's easily distracted by Emil continuing on and...making things more confusing. How is it both if it's neither!! His enthusiasm is a little lacking in the face of Emil's, and he responds,] A book, [before he can stop himself, but he still reaches out so he can examine it more closely. Once it registers, the lynx ears perk up automatically and his eyes widen a little.]
Oh.
[This is...good. This is really good, and he plucks the book away from Emil so he can flip through the pages with a focus that was usually reserved for the first time he set eyes on a map. After some scanning, Lalli looks up, hesitant but still a little proud, as he announces,] Tack.
[FUCK OFF TUURI, HE SAID A SWEDISH THING WITHOUT YOU.]
( That hammering excitement that Emil's barely able to contain intensifies with each new development. Lalli's initial perceived confusion is forgotten when he snatches it, ears perked, flipping through with obvious interest.
Success. He'd take a little bit of a risk since if he's not interested in books, he can only imagine how droll Lalli must find them, but the subject matter makes up for it.
Lalli's said a Swedish word -- emphasis on the a -- before, which had made him smile a little bit, but today he feels aglow. ) See? It's a dictionary that translates stuff for you. I don't know about sentences, but words are a good place to start, right? So we can get the gist of things.
( He doesn't have the dictionary, so he can only confirm in his own language. Emil clears his throat, barely able to be irritated at the effort he has to put in to speak his own language here. )Ingen orsak.
[Lalli nods to relay his understanding as he continues to turn pages, this time going for the reverse. It helps, sort of, to have the context so he feels more like he's confirming the translation rather than learning. Satisfied that he was correct, he folds the book shut and presses it against his chest like it might fly away if given the chance.]
( The excitement leaves his lungs at the remembrance of his dirty deed. He'll never be able to live this down in his mind -- the kind of thing you're suddenly eating a salad or taking a shower, then suddenly remember and die inside all over again. )
They don't, typically. You have to go to a special merchant for it. It took him long enough to get it -- I was a bit dubious at the claims he can get you nearly anything, but he pulled through well enough.
( It's too embarrassing to connect the dots out loud. Whether or not this turns out to have been worth it in the end...he assumes it will be, but time will tell!! )
